Gurgaon set to be the first SDG Literate District

At Global Sustainability Awards 2021, it was announced that Gurgaon would be the first SDG Literate District in the Country ,this is one of its kind initiative in the world .

Gurgaon, December 10, 2021: Sh  Rajeev Ranjan, Divisional Commissioner Gurgaon, announced at Global Sustainability Awards 2021 today that Gurgaon will be the first SDG Literate District in the country by early 2023. Sh Ranjan was the chief guest at the Global Sustainability Awards 2021 for schools hosted by SDGChoupal ,ARCand Earth Day Network on 10 December 2021 at Rotary Public School Gurgaon. “This will be first in India, first in the world,” said the Divisional Commissioner, adding that this move will make “Gurgaon position itself on the global sustainability map of countries working on the UN Global Goals”.

Among dignitaries who joined were Deepak Dwivedi Chairman Nagrik Foundation ,SDGChoupal ,Sh Oberoi Chairman Rotary Public School ,PDG Dr Sushil Khurana ,Hitesh Jain President RC Gurugram ,Sangeeta Sayal President RC Gurgaon Passion ,RtnSandeepp Saxena Director New Gen Rotary Inst Distt RCGP & Global Convenor SDGChoupal ,Paramjeet Dhillon Chair EDUChoupal ,Richaa Jain Kalra National Steering Committee SDGChoupal along with other Rotarians from the Distt 3011 and Educators.

Sh Rajeev Ranjan jee was honoured as SDG Ambassador by Sh Deepak Dwivedi Chairman SDGCHOUPAL.

More than 150 schools from 9 countries and 4 continents participated in the Global Sustainability Awards 2021. The top awards were given to schools in the following categories:

  1. Education for Sustainable Development being imparted to students
  2. Sustainable practices followed in the institution
  3. Making a social impact through community work
  4. Innovative/Unique efforts towards sustainability

The organizers believe that these awards will motivate schools to adopt sustainable practices and impart climate education, which is the need of the hour. The schools were not charged any fee for the awards to enable maximum participation. 

The SDGChoupal is a collective community initiative of Nagrik Foundation, launched at NITI Aayog, on December 20, 2019, supported by Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Ministry of Social Justice Govt. of India, MSME Govt. of India, NSIC, RIS, TERI, UNHabitat, FICCI-ARISE India, CII India@75, WHO, UNESCAP, ONGC, GCNI and many other stake holders. It is dedicated to support the national and state Governments, and institutions on advocacy and community engagement for SDG implementation in India.

Earth Day Network, India (EDN), works in collaboration with EARTHDAY.ORG, the global environmental NGO that began with the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, and today, engages with over 75,000 organisations in some 190 countries for positive action for the environment.
