16th National Convention, United Nations Global Compact, India

UN Global Compact Network India (UNGCNI) – The local arm of United Nations Global Compact, NewYork, announced the 16th National Convention scheduled to be held on December 15-16, 2021.

The Convention will have participants from business including CEOs, CXOs, Heads of Corporateorganizations from Public and Private Sector, besides representatives from Academia, Civil Society andUNentities fromacross India.

The theme for this year is: ‘Target 2030: Assess, Act, Accelerate’ – which revolves around the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)and its allied mechanisms and looks at finding solutions fromthe Governments, private sector, not-for-profits and communities at large, which in turn can contribute towards creating an ecosystem around building safer workplaces & an empowering culture. The objective is toassess,actandaccelerate toachieve the SDG Target of 2030.

The pandemic presents enormous challenges as well and tremendous opportunities for reaching the2030 Agenda and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a roadmap forhumanity. They encompass almost every aspect of human and planetary wellbeing and, if met, willprovide astableandprosperouslifeforeveryperson, and ensurethe healthoftheplanet.

The National Convention will provide a platform to highlight issues related to SDGs in India and discuss ways to overcome these concerns. Over 2000 representatives from Public & Private Sector, Industry, policy makers, Civil Society Organizations, Academia & UN agencies, are likely toparticipate in the event. The two-day Convention has been divided into various sessions which include-Role of Finance in scaling SDGs, Role of Innovation & ecosystem partnerships in scaling SDGs, Driving Net Zero Acceleration, Scaling Renewables, Responsible production, consumption, and circular economy, C-Suite imperatives to Assess, Act & Accelerate SDGs and Youth-centric approaches for achieving SDGs.

Key take aways from the event will be:

  2. Understand perspective of the youth on how they think about SDGs, what according to them is needed to bed one to speed upto the target 2030.
